watching Football is Bad for Your Betting

It has been a good start to the betting season so far. Previous seasons have been shaky given that there isn't much form to go on. But with more betting experience notched up last season. My instincts appear to be maturing! Lets start a few weeks back with the Swansea v Malmo game.

Malmo v Swansea - Both to Score - @ 1.8

Easily one of the worst bets placed in the last few months, at this point in time I had a rush of blood to the head which said to me, "Bony and Big Meech (Michu as I like to call him) are on the pitch! There's definitely goals there. Malmo are at home, and they'll be fired up! I placed the bet 2 mins in after witnessing a passionate attack from Malmo in which they very nearly scored. This attack led me to part with £300 of my hard earned pounds. This led me like a mouse to a mousetrap. There certainly was no cheese. Just 88 minutes of despair and disbelief at how sh*t Malmo actually are.

I started questioning my decision making, "why did I do this to myself?" "Was that necessary?" Swansea couldn't give a rats ass about threatening Malmo's goal being 4-0 up on aggregate. I cashed out 20 mins to go with £50 remaining.

With £50 of defeat, the decision to make is as clear as day, do you:

a) keep the £50 in the account and build it back up like the rock star you are

Or do you:

b) Lick your wounds, put your tail in between your legs, and cash out.

FC Nordsjaelland v FC Copenhagen - Over 2.5 goals @ 1.65

I'm sure you can guess which option I went for!

I placed this with Copenhagen 1-0 up 20 mins in. Saw it on the exchange, the maths added up. I had to take advantage. I saw Nordsjaelland play last season, they have the make up of a team that scores and concedes a lot.

Needless to say this one came in, sparking something of a revival!

Wales u21 v Finland u21 - Over 4.5 goals @ 1.87

Internationals tend to have great odds. I caught this one at 3-0 with ten mins to go at half time. Another blind bet, I placed this and a few minutes later the 4th goal went in. Gratification! A whole half remaining, and only one goal required to bring the bet in. The revival has some legs!

Sweden v Norway - Over 1.5 goals in the first half @ 1.65

The odds were low due to Sweden being 1-0 up after 2 mins thanks to the 6 foot 5 goal mouth ninja assassin known as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I visualized the second goal coming in on 38 mins. Zlatan scored his second on 28 mins. And on the 38th minute Norway equalised!

*Note to self, visualize winning the lottery at age 38.

Three blind bets in a row got me feeling like this on the couch...

Iraq v Chile - Over 6.5 goals @ 1.9

On paper, I know how bad this looks. 6.5 goals at 1.9 When odds of 7.8 are more appropriate. I just so happened to be watching this one. Chile were pulling Iraq's pants down and penetrating them at will. At 3-0 i tried to get odds for two more goals. To which I was rudely interrupted by a fourth goal going in. So 5-0 at half time I decide to place a bet for two more goals in the second half at 1.9 to compensate for the two I had just missed.

Bad move.

On second thoughts I cashed out, too many times have teams come out for the second half on a comfortable perch and just not bothered with the rest of the game. Chile scored one more goal. Money lost, but money saved.

Portugal v Netherlands - Both to Score @ 1.79

This bet completes the revival. I was definitely a bit worried here. Holland scored early which was great news. Portugal had all the possession but didn't score till the 87th minute. This ceased to be a gamble and instead became a test of nerve and faith. Portugal dominated the whole game but couldn't finish. The cash out option closed on 83'. Thankfully Cristiano Ronaldo had not been subbed off. Another successful blind wager and it is safe to say that watching football has a negative effect on my betting. Make of that what you will. But with Ronaldo scoring on 87' I stood tall over my account balance like a man who has climbed Everest! Better yet like a Daredevil!

Well, best standing tall now, as after a few weeks of betting there probably will not be anything to actually look at upon clicking "account balance".

More roller coasters to come, tips for the weekend to be posted shortly.

bits n bobs

Willian passes medical at Tottenham, Daniel Levy buys before he sells. We reckon Gareth Bale is definitely on his way.

David Villa scores sublime volley against old club Barcelona.

Wenger in for Benzema and Di Maria, clearly attempting to sign Suarez wasn’t unrealistic enough.

After a season of consistent failed back heels, wayward passing and erratic decision making. The Welsh grim reaper that is Aaron Ramsey scored last night and played well! No one famous appears to have died yet.

Norwich have signed Elmander, a few seasons ago he was the bollocks at Bolton. One to consider for your Norwich predictions.

Monday night hosts Man Utd v Chelsea, which will somewhat be overshadowed by the eccentricity that is Jamie Carraghers punditry!
