Hull v Southampton - Both to score - £250 @1.96
Ricky Lambert picked this of all games to leave his shooting boots in the changing room. Twice in the first ten minutes he squandered chances he usually buries. Shane Long hit the post with a great header, but Hull's chances where few and far between. After 15 minutes I considered cashing out, due to Hull struggling to mount any noticeable attacks, this could only continue when Southampton are in this mood. But my decision was to keep the faith. Half time 0-0. My £250 whittled down to £120. Cash out now? I held on.
Second half kicked off, nothing of note happened. £120 is now £75. Definitely time to exercise that cash out option. Ten minutes later Southampton scored.
£250 wagered - £240 expected profit minus £175 actual return
My betfair account resembled this man:
athletico vs Real Madrid - Under 2.5 goals - £75 @ 2.26
There was over half an hour to go in this game roughly. I went for this purely because the odds would have brought about some kind of recovery. Real were like 5-0 up on aggregate or something silly like that, both teams had no motivation to actually score. Maybe Athletico wanted to salvage some pride but Real kept it solid at the back. My nerves wouldn't allow me to sit there and watch this to the end after placing the bet, so I changed it over.
Betting with the clock on your side is a beautiful thing, watching your balance accumulate as the clock ticks on. Spanish games are great in these circumstances as you get referees blowing for every little minor foul. Generally messing up the flow of play. In these scenarios you could kiss the ref for that. This bet held up and suddenly at £160, the losses weren't too severe.
The account balance was off it's Arse!
West Brom v Chelsea - under 2.5 goals - £160 @ 1.19
Fulham v Liverpool - sturridge to score - £196 @ 2.1
Arsenal v Man Utd - Both to Score - We've lost belief in Man Utd this season, we cant back them to do anything!
Fulham v Liverpool - Liverpool Half Time - Liverpool usually kill teams in the first half. It was 1.87 whilst Sturridge was 2.1, so we backed Danny. And when Fulham went 1-0 up after 6 minutes Gordon Gekko no doubt sprang to mind:
